Students - here are 13 attractions in Downtown San Antonio!

You and your partner MUST choose one attraction to visit. At this site, you will find something of interest to describe and report back to the class. Each person must report on different things within each attraction. Each student is also required to post comments to at least FIVE other students’ posts!

What is a “something of interest”?
Glad you asked! This could include a piece of art or artifact at a museum, a historical description of the attraction, one area in the attraction

Here are the requirements for each blog:
  • Three photos of the attraction – you must be in at least ONE photo!
  • A 2-paragraph description of the thing of interest.
Example: I went to visit the McNay Art Museum, located north of downtown San Antonio. The museum houses many works of art ranging from painting, drawings, sculpture, textiles and prints. These works of art are housed in a Spanish colonial-style mansion on 23 acres of landscaped land. The property has fountains, a Japanese-garden and a fishpond. The focus of the museum is 19th and 20th century European and American art. Some of the most famous artists represented in the collection include Paul Cézanne, Pablo Picasso, Paul Gauguin, Henri Matisse, Georgia O’Keeffe, Diego Rivera, Mary Cassatt, and Edward Hopper.

At the museum, I was most impressed with one of the sculptures exhibited outside on the well-maintained lawn. The artist who created this work is Philip Grausman, an American sculpture. The work is called Victoria, cast in 2007 in stainless steel. As you can see from the photo, the sculpture is quite large and is of a woman’s head. Her age is undeterminable with a stoic, somewhat cruel look on her face. What most impressed me about the work was the size and material. I loved how it radiated in the bright Texas sun.
